![]() ![]() In the stories, Hecate helped the gods in their struggle against the Gigantes, the hundred giants mothered by Gaia. Here’s a summary of the most important tales featuring the goddess Hecate, and how to worship Her in your personal pagan practice. The best way to connect with Hecate, like any goddess or god, is through the mythology, epithets and symbols. Hecate’s presence as a goddess of the Mysteries imply that she played a significant part in moving from a normal state of consciousness into the state of ecstatic madness that the Mysteries became famous for. Many magical and esoteric practices occurred at the Eleusinian Mysteries. Those who practiced the Eleusinian Mysteries (the most famous of the secret religious rites of ancient Greece) paid homage to Hecate, and psychoactive and hallucinogenic plants were unsurprisingly associated with her as well. She taught other mythological figures such as the witch Medea how to work with Magic. The goddess was also known for her closeness to both medicines and poisons. Among others that Hecate takes a keen interest in are horsemen, sailors and fishers, and children. Athletes, as well, operate under the auspices of Hecate for they also want the glory of victory. The goddess Hecate watches battles and determines whom she will grant the glory of victory to. Hesiod even goes so far as to say that when a human makes a sacrifice, that human invokes the power of Hecate herself and it is her decision whether to bestow fortune and happiness upon that person. Zeus often showered Hecate with gifts, and the other immortal deities of the Greek pantheon honor her as well in their various ways. The ancient Greek poet Hesiod noted that Hecate received much praise from Zeus, the King of Mount Olympus. Hecate: Goddess Facts Hecate: Greek Goddess Art She, along with Hermes, is responsible for fate that travelers meet on the road, therefor it would be wise for any traveler to make offerings to the goddess in hopes of a safe journey. ![]() Hecate is heavily associated with the crossroads, the place where multiple paths intersect. Hecate’s mediating presence led many followers to ask that bad fortune or malevolent spirits be kept from their household, and Hecate had the power to either rebuff or admit spirits into a home. ![]() Hecate mediates between realms: inside the city and outside, the realm of life and the underworld, the household and the world. Her association with boundaries such as walls and doors give her a quality of between-ness. She had good company in this regard, with other protective deities being Zeus, ruler of the gods, and Hermes, the herald of the gods. Hecate belongs to a group of deities known as protectors of the oikos, or household. Who is Hecate? Hecate Goddess of Witchcraft Some scholars suggest that this name ties her closely with the goddess Artemis, and that Hecate might actually be a shadowy aspect of Artemis. Hecate’s name (Greek: Hekate, Latin: Hecate) means far-reaching one, and hints at this goddess’s wide influence over a variety of earthly and supernatural affairs. A goddess of crossroads, magic, poison, and the undead, Hecate was also the daughter of the Titan Perses and the nymph Asteria, according to Hesiod. This runestone dates to around 400 AD but there are no written records that can tell us exactly when it was created.A mysterious Greek deity, Hecate lives in the corners of the Greek mythos. The first recorded use was found at a Viking settlement near Tängelgårda, Sweden. These ancient Norse runes have been found as far away as Iran, Turkey, England, and India. The first runes were carved into wood, bone, or stone and then painted with various colours to make them more visible. This writing system is believed to have originated from the Old Italic scripts: a variation of the North Italic (Etruscan or Raetic alphabets), or the Latin Alphabet itself. The Elder Futhark (or sometimes just “Futhorc”) is the oldest form of runic alphabet. The word “Futhark” is derived from the first six letters, which are called “Fehu,” “Uruz,” “Thurisaz,” “Ansuz,” “Raidho” and “Kennaz.” The Elder Futhark runes are a set of 24 symbols that were used for writing in Scandinavia and other parts of Northern Europe from about 200-800 AD. While there are many different types of runes, here I’ll be focusing on Elder Futhark. Writing itself was often seen as magic by other peoples who had no writing systems of their own. The word rune comes from an Old Norse term meaning a secret letter that was used for casting spells. Professionals say the precise wire gauge should be 3 AWG copper or 1 AWG aluminum wire. The NEC allows you to use the 4 AWG for 100 amps based on the understanding that the derating factors should be considered before confirming the wire size.Ĥ AWG is ideal if the distance is shorter than 50 feet. This discrepancy between the suggested wire size and the wire ampacity can be resolved by considering several factors like the wire material, distance, ambient temperature, wire ampacity, and voltage drop. I was confused, too, until I learned that NEC provides only the minimum wire gauge for different feeders. Isn’t it confusing because it is also the same wire for 70 amps?Īt the same time, when you see the Wire Ampacity Chart, you will see that a 4 AWG copper has 85A ampacity at 157☏, and a 2 AWG aluminum has 90A ampacity. Players also get the chance to stack on top of a Mogoth to cross razor-sharp stone pathways, as well as ride among monstrously huge spiders and ladybugs in order to access some areas. A common puzzle throughout the game involves stacking pieces of a standing stone, called a "Flagstone", in order to open doors. These skills are expanded upon as the game progresses, ranging from detectors that allow to find the game's collectibles (Bétamèche), upgrading Selenia's dagger to The Sword of Power, and allowing Arthur to remove shields equipped by some enemies. ![]() You can learn a song someone else created or make up your own. Walk away, come back, and review old material, add a new group, walk away, etc. So learn a section of the table, go off and do something else, write out what you learned in that first section, and try to learn a new section. ![]() This involves repeated practice and exposure. To truly commit the periodic table to memory, you need to access the part of your brain responsible for long-term memory. Cramming might serve for short-term memorization, like for a test the very next day, but you won't remember anything a few days later. You'll remember the table much better if you spread out the memorization process over multiple sessions instead of cramming the entire table at once. Rather than attempting to memorize all of the elements at once, learn one group at a time, master that group, and then learn the next group until you know the whole table. It may be helpful to view an ordered list of the elements. You could memorize element groups (different color groups), go one row at a time, or memorize in sets of 20 elements. How you memorize the table depends on what works best for you and your learning style, but here are some recommendations that may help: Unfortunately, it is radioactive, and increased exposure to it has been correlated with an increased lung cancer risk.īecause radon comes from the ground, we cannot avoid it entirely.Once you have the table, you need to learn it. Because it is a noble gas, radon is not chemically reactive. Radon is an invisible, odorless noble gas that is slowly released from the ground, particularly from rocks and soils whose uranium content is high. For example, the elements of Group 1 are known as the alkali metals, Group 2 are the alkaline earth metals, Group 17 are the halogens, and Group 18 are the noble gases. Chemists often make general statements about the properties of the elements in a group using descriptive names with historical origins. However, even these small quantities are required for the body to function properly.Īs previously noted, the periodic table is arranged so that elements with similar chemical behaviors are in the same group. These last three metals are not listed explicitly in Table 2.1.2, so they are present in the body in very small quantities. Cobalt is a necessary component of vitamin B-12, a vital nutrient. Manganese is needed for the body to metabolize oxygen properly. Copper is also needed for several proteins to function properly in the body. Zinc is needed for the body’s immune system to function properly, as well as for protein synthesis and tissue and cell growth. Other transition metals have important functions in the body, despite being present in low amounts. It is the presence of this particular transition metal in your red blood cells that allows you to use the oxygen you inhale. Each hemoglobin molecule has four iron atoms, which act as binding sites for oxygen. The crucial atom in the hemoglobin protein is iron. Hemoglobin is a relatively large molecule, with a mass of about 65,000 u. ![]() Hemoglobin combines with oxygen and carbon dioxide, transporting these gases from one location to another in the body. The critical part of the red blood cell is a protein called hemoglobin. Without red blood cells, animal respiration as we know it would not exist. Red blood cells are cells that transport oxygen from the lungs to cells of the body and then transport carbon dioxide from the cells to the lungs. The chemistry of iron makes it a key component in the proper functioning of red blood cells. Transition metals have interesting chemical properties, partially because some of their electrons are in d subshells. Because iron has relatively massive atoms, it would appear even lower on a list organized in terms of percent by atoms rather than percent by mass. The first element appearing on the list that is not a main group element is iron, at 0.006 percentage by mass. Most of the elemental composition of the human body consists of main group elements. To Your Health: Transition Metals in the Body Each group is located in a different part of the periodic table. It is connected to power at all times (hence “hot”), but no data is stored on it. So, yes for a hot spare you install yet another drive. If you are absent from the location of your NAS often and can’t immediately replace a defective disk it might be a good idea to either install a so called “hot spare” drive or have a spare one laying around. Any additional drive failing will make you lose the entire volume even if one drive is technically still fine and failure-free, but since the data is shared amongst the three in RAID 5 it won’t be recoverable. During that time your entire volume is at high risk. But keep in mind that the repair process of the missing 12TB parity drive can take up to 3-4 days or even longer. It’s recommended to replace the failed and defective drive quickly so that the RAID 5 volume can be repaired. The data is stripped between the now three drives and you can afford to lose one due to hardware failure. Your capacity will then grow to 24TB, despite just addinge one more drive. It’s also good that you can always upgrade a RAID 1 volume to a RAID 5 volume by adding another 12TB drive. (However, the write speed remains at the speed of one single drive.) The added benefit of RAID 1 is that you will have nearly double the read speed, since the data can be read simultaneously off of the two drives, which is good when using it to store large files, such as the videos that you mentioned. You will only have a volume of 12TB capacity. Keep in mind that the drives are mirrored down to the block. Especially if you have to access the NAS when you are on the go and can’t immediately respond to a failing disk. RAID 1 is a good choice for 1st level hardware redundancy. There is Synology playlist that also contains a lot of beginner tutorials that start from scratch. I can highly recommend the videos that Will produces. There is fairly new and underrated YouTube channel, that also covers setting up Synology NAS’: SpaceRex - YouTube. I pretty much learned it by tinkering and searching online for tutorials and reading the documentation. Start by asking the place where you purchased the equipment. If this phases you then I think you probably need to hire someone locally. ![]() Set up time machine by following this official guide from Synology.Īfter I did that for 2 Macs, the first 1 or 2 backups had a few errors which I just ignored and since then they have happily backed up for months with zero issues. You’re probably just going to have the one (and you should buy more drives, fill that thing up for better performance and security). Once you have done that, you will be able to follow these steps, hopefully to success. You need to familiarise yourself with DSM - DiskStation Manager. Hope you were not looking for that kind of experience! It went extremely well but it is a very manual process compared to, for example, configuring to back up to an apple Time Capsule.
